“I was in a state of confusion. I was of the belief that I and Akash (his son) would not be getting tickets together. He has created his own niche in the city with hard work. Why should I contest polls? Because of me he should not face political harm. This was going on in my mind as a father. But the party’s command is the party’s command,” Vijayvargiya said.

BJP national general secretary is among eight heavyweights — including three Union ministers — named as candidates in the 2023 MP polls. It’s been 10 years since Vijayvargiya contested an assembly election.
“I did not want to contest the polls. But I got instructions from senior leaders the day before yesterday. I was in a state of confusion. I was surprised when the declaration was made suddenly today. It is an honour for me that the party has sent me back to electoral politics. I will try to meet the party’s expectations,” he had said on Monday night.
“It is the party’s order. I was only told that I’d be given some work and I shouldn’t refuse it. ‘You will have to do it’, I was told. But I was surprised when the ticket for Indore-1 was declared,” he told ANI. “We are soldiers of the party. We will follow whatever the party orders,” said the BJP leader.

On the opportunities ahead, he said: “In politics, if you have learned to walk, this is a party that makes anybody run anywhere. But you must know how to walk, that too in the right direction.”
