Aiadmk Bjp Alliance: AIADMK breaks alliance with BJP, exits NDA | Chennai News

CHENNAI/COIMBATORE: The AIADMK led by Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday announced its decision to break its alliance with the BJP and exit the NDA.
A meeting of party headquarters office-bearers and district secretaries chaired by Palaniswami adopted a unanimous resolution to this effect.
Former minister and senior leader K P Munusamy read out the resolution amid scores of former ministers, functionaries and cadres swarming the party headquarters.
“The BJP state leadership has been making derogatory statements against the AIADMK, our leaders, Anna and Amma (late chief ministers C N Annadurai and J Jayalalithaa) wantonly and deliberately and criticising the AIADMK principles,” the resolution said, setting the tone for the break-up.
The resolution said the BJP leadership belittled the historic conference of the AIADMK in Madurai that took place on August 20 and slandered Palaniswami steering the party of two crore cadres. “This has caused unrest among the cadres and functionaries,” the party said, justifying its decision to snap ties with the saffron brigade by respecting the sentiments of the members.
The AIADMK would head an alliance and face the general elections in 2024, Munusamy said.
The announcement was frequently interrupted by the jubilant cadres, who burst fireworks and shouted slogans.
Annamalai doesn’t want to speak politics during yatra
State BJP president K Annamalai on Monday chose not to comment on the AIADMK’s decision to snap ties. Annamalai, who was in Coimbatore for his padayatra, said, “I don’t want to speak politics during the yatra.”
He said party national leadership would speak on this at an appropriate time. “I will talk later,” he told reporters.
