NEW DELHI: Indian rowers continued to shine at the Asian Games with a stellar performance that saw them claim two bronze medals on a thrilling Monday of competition. The day commenced with the quartet of Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar, and Ashish Goliyan securing a bronze medal in the men’s fours event, setting the stage for an outstanding day of rowing.
In a dramatic twist, the men’s quadruple sculls team, consisting of Satnam Singh, Parminder Singh, Jakar Khan, and Sukhmeet Singh, emerged as the day’s heroes. They secured the bronze medal with a timing of 6 minutes and 8.61 seconds. This impressive achievement placed them behind Uzbekistan, who finished in second place with a time of 6 minutes and 4.64 seconds, and the gold medalists, China, who clocked in at 6 minutes and 2.65 seconds.

The quartet’s extraordinary determination was evident as they surged from fourth place to clinch third in the final 500 metres of the challenging 2000-metre race. Their superb coordination and unwavering effort earned them a well-deserved spot on the podium.
In the men’s four event, another quartet of Indian rowers showcased exceptional teamwork and resilience. Despite lying in fourth place during the final 500 metres of the gruelling 2000-metre race, they displayed remarkable coordination to secure the bronze medal with a time of 6 minutes and 10.81 seconds. China, just fractions of a second ahead, secured the silver medal with a time of 6 minutes and 10.04 seconds, while Uzbekistan claimed the top spot on the podium with a time of 6 minutes and 4.96 seconds.

Indian rower Balraj Panwar, who had shown promise throughout the competition, narrowly missed out on a maiden Asian Games podium finish. The 24-year-old from Karnal had been among the top three at the 1500-metre mark but faced challenges in the final 500 metres, ultimately finishing in fourth place with a time of 7 minutes and 8.79 seconds. Hong Kong’s Hin Chun Chiu secured the bronze medal with a time of 7 minutes and 0.55 seconds, finishing just ahead of Balraj.
The gold in the men’s single sculls event was clinched by China’s Liang Zang, who displayed exceptional prowess with a time of 6 minutes and 57.06 seconds. Japan’s Ryuta Arakawa secured the silver medal with a time of 6 minutes and 59.79 seconds.

With these impressive achievements, Indian rowers have now added two silver and five bronze medals to the nation’s medal tally at the Asian Games, building on their successful performances from the previous day when they secured two silver and a bronze medal.
The Indian contingent continues to make the nation proud with their dedication and remarkable performances on the international stage.
