Watch: Johnson Charles escapes serious injury, gets ‘almost’ dismissed by own helmet | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In a bizarre turn of events, St Lucia Kings opener Johnson Charles almost got his face knocked off while attempting a scoop shot during a Caribbean Premier League match against Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday.
Charles also almost got dismissed by his own helmet while attempting the shot but was lucky to survive both a serious injury to his face and the dismissal.
The incident took place in the 12th over of the Kings’ innings when Charles tried to scoop a Dwayne Bravo low full-toss to fine-leg. After connecting with the ball, Charles was unable to get his body out of the line as it smashed flush into his helmet. A disoriented Charles lost his balance as the pace on the ball also made the batter lose his helmet.
As the helmet went down towards the stumps, Charles somehow gathered himself and tried to kick off the helmet away from the stumps. Luckily for the Kings batter, he survived the dismissal and avoided a freak injury.

Charles went on to score 37, guiding Kings to 167/5 in their 20 overs.
