Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison for two weeks, terrifying people in the suburbs west of Philadelphia, was apprehended on Wednesday, Pennsylvania state police said.
On August 31, he escaped from Chester County Prison, roughly 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Philadelphia, by climbing between two walls that formed an extremely narrow corridor in the jail house yard and ascending onto the roof.
Cavalcante was sentenced to life for murdering his ex-girlfriend in 2021. Prosecutors say he wanted her to keep quiet about the fact that he is wanted for homicide in his home country of Brazil. He escaped from the Chester County Prison while awaiting transfer to state prison on August 31.
Authorities will conduct a press conference at 9:30 a.m. (1330 GMT) to discuss his capture, state police stated in a post on the X.

Cavalcante’s daring escape made international headlines when he scaled a wall, climbed over razor wire, and jumped from a roof. Guards didn’t discover his escape until a headcount was taken an hour later, according to authorities.
