NEW DELHI: In a remarkable milestone, India captain Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, achieved yet another significant accomplishment during the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The duo solidified their status as two of India’s cricketing legends by becoming the fastest pair in ODI cricket to amass 5,000 partnership runs.
This extraordinary achievement saw Rohit and Virat surpass the iconic West Indies duo of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, who previously held the record for reaching 5,000 ODI runs together in 97 innings.
In contrast, Rohit and Virat achieved this remarkable feat in just their 86th ODI inning batting together.

Their partnership has been nothing short of remarkable, boasting 18 century partnerships and 15 half-century stands, all at an impressive average of 62.47. These two batting maestros continue to script history in the world of cricket, adding yet another feather to their illustrious caps.
Their highest partnership came in 2018 when the right-handed duo added 246 runs against Australia at Guwahati to chase down a daunting target of 323.
They are also the third Indian pair to reach the landmark figure after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan.
Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly hold the global record for most runs scored as a pair in One-Day Internationals with 8227 runs in 176 innings.
