NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli (122 not out) and KL Rahul (111 not out) made the mockery of the star Pakistan bowling line up with their whirlwind century knocks during the Asia Cup Super 4 clash in Colombo on Monday.
India amassed 209 runs in 25.5 overs on the reserve day without losing a wicket courtesy an unbeaten 233-run stand between Kohli and Rahul. An incessant rain on Sunday forced the match into reserve day.During the course of India’s mammoth 356/2 against Pakistan, both Kohli and Rahul etched their names in the history books, breaking several records.Take a look:
* Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to score 13000 ODI runs in ODIs. He achieved the feat in his 267th innings, bettering Sachin Tendulkar‘s record who took 321 innings to get to 13000 runs.
* The unbeaten 233-run stand between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul was also the highest partnership in the history of the ODI Asia Cup. The duo surpassed Mohammed Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed’s 224-run stand against India in 2012.
* Their third-wicket stand was also the highest partnership for India vs Pakistan in ODIs for any wicket. Navjot Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar held the previous record of 231 that came in 1996 for the second wicket.
* Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 122 off 94 balls was his fourth hundred in ODI Asia Cup, only behind former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya (6). Kumar Sangakkara also has four hundreds to his name.
* Virat Kohli’s love affair with R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo continued with a fourth century on the trot at the venue. His previous scores were 128*, 131 and 110*.
* This was only the third time that India’s number three and fours batters scored hundreds in an ODI. The previous two instances were Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar against Kenya in Bristol, 1999 and Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli vs Sri Lanka in Kolkata, 2009.
