Heath Streak to TOI: Reports of death ‘silly, malicious rumours’ | Cricket News

[ad_1]

MUMBAI: Former Zimbabwe cricket captain Heath Streak was naturally left irked by rumours floating around on Wednesday morning that he had ‘died’.
“These are silly, malicious rumours. Thank you for checking and helping out (with this). It’s exactly that, a rumour,” Streak told TOI. Earlier, former Zimbabwe cricketer Henry Olonga on Wednesday clarified that cricketing icon Heath Streak is alive, having earlier announced the death of the former Zimbabwe captain.

Taking to ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter), Olonga shared a screenshot of his WhatsApp chat with Streak, saying that the rumour of Streak’s demise had been “greatly exaggerated”. “I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive, folks,” Olonga said in a post.

The 49-year-old remains the only Zimbabwe cricketer to take 100 Test wickets. Streak represented Zimbabwe in 65 Test matches and 189 ODIs. He led Zimbabwe between 2000-04 before opting for retirement in 2005.
