NEW DELHI: Teen-aged Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa drew the second game of his FIDE World Cup semifinal against American GM Fabiano Caruana on Sunday, sending the match to a tie-break.
Praggnanandhaa, 18, tied the two-match classical series against Caruana 1-1. On Monday, the two players will compete in a tie-break to determine who advances to the final versus world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen.
The match between Praggnanandhaa and world No.3 Caruana on Sunday ended in a tie after 47 moves.
Carlsen, who won the first game on Saturday, drew in 74 moves against Azerbaijan’s Nijat Abasov to secure his place in the final.

Praggnanandhaa, a young chess prodigy from Chennai, became only the second Indian after the famous Viswanathan Anand to qualify for the World Cup semifinals, and he will also compete in the Candidates event next year.
The tournament’s top three finishers advance to the Candidates event in 2024, which will choose Ding Liren’s successor.
