Securus Monitoring Highlights How Technology-Enabled Supervision Helps People Return Home Safely and Build Stability
For people under community supervision, every night spent safely at home can help build the foundation for successful reentry. Electronic monitoring makes home-based supervision more practical by providing officers with continuous, real-time visibility beyond traditional face-to-face check-ins. At the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) Annual Training Institute, August 16–19 in Chicago, Securus Monitoring will demonstrate how connected monitoring technology can help agencies maintain accountability while giving individuals the opportunity to build stability in their communities.
Technology That Extends Supervision Into the Community
Securus Monitoring technology extends connected corrections infrastructure into the community, giving supervision agencies real-time visibility into an individual’s location and compliance with release conditions. That visibility can give officers greater confidence when approving activities such as work schedules, treatment appointments, and family visits, while helping them respond quickly when circumstances change.
With connected monitoring tools, agencies can strengthen oversight while supporting more efficient supervision of larger caseloads. Research from the National Institute of Justice has found that electronic monitoring can reduce the risk of failure under community supervision by more than 30 percent compared with other forms of community supervision.

Technology That Supports Officer Focus and Participant Stability
At Booth #321, Securus Monitoring will connect with community supervision and parole leaders to showcase technologies designed to support safe, home-based supervision.
- BLUtag provides real-time GPS monitoring, giving supervising officers precise visibility into an individual’s location and enabling customized inclusion and exclusion zones around important locations, including workplaces, schools, and residences.
- SoberTrack combines remote alcohol testing with GPS verification, identity confirmation, and photo documentation. The technology provides officers with immediate, verified results while reducing the need for in-person field visits and allowing individuals to maintain employment and other daily responsibilities.
Together, these technologies can help agencies maintain active oversight while supporting the day-to-day stability that is essential to successful reentry.
Employment as a Foundation for Successful Reentry
Safe reentry is about more than where someone lives. Employment can provide structure, financial stability, purpose, and a pathway toward long-term success in the community. Technology-enabled supervision can help individuals remain safely in the community while they pursue meaningful employment and meet the requirements of supervision.
This year marks the fifth consecutive year that Securus Technologies has supported the APPA Career & Resource Fair. Across the four fairs held to date, more than 750 people on community supervision have participated, alongside more than 95 employers and 47 service providers across four states.
The career fair creates opportunities for people on supervision to connect directly with employers and community resources that can support employment, stability, and successful reentry.
This year’s event will also feature a fireside chat hosted by Securus focused on what it takes not only to secure employment, but also to sustain a job and build a career while meeting the requirements of community supervision. The conversation will bring together perspectives from employers, community corrections professionals, and people with lived experience.
