Watch: Kusal Mendis’ one-handed run-out reminds fans of MS Dhoni | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Kusal Mendis reminded fans of former India skipper MS Dhoni’s brilliant keeping skills with his lightning-quick glove work during the Lanka Premier League 2023 match between Galle Titans and Dambulla Aura on Friday.

Dambulla Aura’s wicket-keeper Mendis exhibited a great presence of mind to effect a run out of Galle Titans batter Lahiru Samarakoon with an underarm throw despite a wayward collect from fielder Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Mendis’ act was similar to what Dhoni did seven years ago in 2016 in Ranchi. Dhoni pulled off a blinder when he received the ball from Dhawal Kulkarni and affected New Zealand’s batter Ross Taylor’s run out without looking at the stumps.
Talking about the LPL match, Titans struggled to score a mere 133/9 in their allocated 20 overs after being asked to bat. Mendis showcased proficiency behind the stumps, contributing to three dismissals – one stumping and two run-outs.
In reply, Dambulla tactfully achieved the target in a relaxed 17.4 overs, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory. Opening for Dambulla, Mendis scored 18 from 24 deliveries, including a solitary boundary.
