Nancy Pelosi: Nancy Pelosi urges ‘humanitarian pause’ over revenge in Israel-Hamas conflict

NEW DELHI: In a recent media appearance, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called for a “humanitarian pause” in the Israel-Hamas war, emphasizing the need for “justice” rather than “revenge” in response to Hamas’ attacks.
According to a report in Fox News, Pelosi expressed her views during an interview on MSNBC, stating, “I think the humanitarian pause is the way to go,” while condemning Hamas’ actions as “barbaric” and outside the boundaries of civilized human behavior. She stressed that if such violence had affected anyone’s family, they would undoubtedly seek justice.
Pelosi rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, arguing, “So there has to be some other place we go instead of just saying ‘let’s have a ceasefire.’”
Nancy Pelosi also pointed out that a previous ceasefire in May was broken by Hamas on October 7. While acknowledging potential dissent within her caucus, Pelosi believed that the majority would support her stance, Fox News reported.
On the other side, the Israeli government has firmly rejected calls for a ceasefire, deeming them a “pro-Hamas position.” Eylon Levy, an Israeli government spokesman, stated, “Demanding a ceasefire from Israel is saying that Hamas should get away with what it did — and should keep its ability to do it again.”
According to Fox News reported, some American politicians, particularly members of the far-left “Squad” like Representative Summer Lee, have advocated for a ceasefire. Lee expressed her hope that the crisis would end with a resounding affirmation of the value of all lives.
Her comments were met with approval from fellow “Squad” members, Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., who stood beside her.
Pelosi also addressed the Republican Speaker’s race, calling for the selection of a speaker on the Republican side, acknowledging their electoral success and emphasizing the importance of conducting the business of Congress and keeping the government open.
