Techie couple from UP, 2 kids found dead at home in US; police suspect murder-suicide | Kanpur News

KANPUR: An eerie silence prevailed on Thursday in the Rajendra Nagar area of Uttar Pradesh’s Orai at the house of Vivek Pratap Singh whose younger brother Tej Pratap, his wife and two children were found dead inside their house in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
Once the news of the deaths was communicated to the Indian government, Jalaun district magistrate (DM) Rajesh Kumar Pandey and superintendent of police (SP) Iraj Raja visited the family to assure them of all possible government assistance.

Jalaun SP Iraj Raja told TOI that they have spoken to the US embassy in Delhi, and as per rules, it takes five to seven days for them to perform several procedures, including the post-mortem, before the bodies can be sent to India. “We are in constant touch with the authorities,” he said.

Having completed his B Tech from IIT Kanpur, Tej Pratap, 44, youngest among his seven siblings, initially got a job at HCL. He shifted to New Jersey in 2009 along with his wife Sonal Parihar, 42, after accepting a job offer there. Tej Pratap’s brother Vivek said the police in the US were yet to find out the circumstances that could have led to the death of the four.

Media reports from New Jersey said Tej apparently first murdered his wife and children and then killed himself. The reason that could have prompted the techie to take such a step, could not be known. The kin of the deceased want the bodies of the victims to be brought to their native town for the last rites.
