NEW DELHI: South Africa secured their spot in the ODI World Cup semi-finals on Saturday, becoming the second team to do so thanks to Pakistan’s victory over New Zealand.
With 12 points accumulated from seven games, the Proteas have now joined India, the tournament’s host, in advancing to the last four.

While Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan have all earned eight points each, none of them will be able to reach the 12-point mark held by South Africa in the final week of group stage matches.

Fakhar Zaman delivered a blazing century off just 63 balls, propelling Pakistan to a victory. The match was decided by the DLS method due to two rain interruptions.
Zaman’s unbeaten 126 from 71 deliveries powered Pakistan to a total of 200-1 in 25.3 overs, which put them 21 runs ahead on the DLS calculation in a high-scoring contest.

Pakistan triumphs over New Zealand by 21 runs in rain-affected cricket World Cup Match

Earlier, New Zealand’s standout performer in the tournament, Rachin Ravindra, notched his third century of the competition, while Kane Williamson fell just short of a century on his return as New Zealand posted a formidable 401-6 after being asked to bat.
This victory brought Pakistan level with New Zealand on eight points, with New Zealand holding fourth place in the standings due to a superior net run-rate compared to Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistan, having endured a four-game losing streak at one stage, now has a chance to sneak into the semifinals with their final league game scheduled against England on November 11.
