ICC World Cup: Kuldeep Yadav credits Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj for India’s unbeaten run | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In India’s so far undefeated ICC World Cup 2023 campaign, spinner Kuldeep Yadav attributed the team’s success to pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, emphasizing the crucial role of the pace attack.
The Men in Blue have commenced their ODI World Cup journey with an impressive four consecutive victories. They started the campaign with a six-wicket triumph over five-time champion Australia, followed by an eight-wicket win against Afghanistan. Subsequently, they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets and Bangladesh by seven wickets.
“It’s very important to start off very well with the first Powerplay. Jasprit and Siraj have done really well,” sad Yadav talking to ICC.
Acknowledging their contributions in taking wickets and maintaining a tight grip on the run-rate when he and Ravindra Jadeja take the ball, Kuldeep added, “We’ve always got one or two wickets, only today (against Bangladesh) we felt that they (the opposition) got a very good start.”
While India’s batsmen, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been in superb form, the bowlers have played an equally vital role in securing victories.
India have taken 36 wickets in four matches, dismissing Australia and Pakistan for less than 200 runs.
The pace duo of Bumrah and Siraj has been exceptional, with Bumrah being the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 10 wickets. Hardik Pandya and Siraj have each contributed five wickets. Spinners Jadeja and Kuldeep have also been crucial, with Jadeja securing seven wickets and Kuldeep proving to be an economical bowler with six scalps.
Kuldeep emphasized the spin-bowling strategy, stating, “We’re just working on the length and we’re keeping it very simple, me and Jaddu bhai. We’re getting good wickets as well, but it’s very important to keep it very simple and just maintain that in every game. If you pick an early wicket in the middle overs, definitely it gives you confidence and it just controls the run rate as well.”
The two-time champions will look to continue their winning streak as they prepare to face unbeaten New Zealand in a top-of-the-table clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Kuldeep expressed confidence in their performance, stating, “The opposition is good, but we feel we are very comfortable, playing good cricket. That’s more important than anything. Obviously when you face good sides in the World Cup, there’s a lot of pressure, but at the same time it’s very important to keep calm and keep playing good cricket. We as a team are doing really well, so we’d just like to continue the same in the next game.”
