NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday approved a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees.
With this decision, the DA for central government employees will increase to 46% from the existing 42%. The DA hike will be implemented from 1, July 2023, the Centre said.
The decision will benefit over 48.67 lakh central government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners.
This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
Along with the DA hike, the Cabinet has also approved Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for railways employees, which is equivalent to 78 days of pay.
The dearness allowance for employees and pensioners are worked out on the basis of the latest Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) brought out by the Labour Bureau every month. The Labour Bureau is a wing of the labour ministry.
The last revision in DA was done on March 24, 2023.
