‘This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza’: Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan after victory against Sri Lanka | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan hit an unbeaten 131 and guided Abdullah Shafique during the World Cup debutant’s 113 as the 1992 champions chased down 345 to eclipse Ireland’s record of 329 against England in the 2011 edition to secure a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Batting on 83, the 31-year-old collapsed to the ground due to cramps after smashing a six but soldiered on for the rest of the innings to ensure Saud Shakeel (31) and Iftikhar Ahmed (22 not out) did not have to too much heavy lifting to do.

Skipper Babar Azam‘s early departure left Pakistan in trouble at 37-2 in 7.2 overs but Rizwan and Shafique’s partnership of 176 runs for the third wicket did the job for Pakistan.

On Wednesday, Rizwan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “This was for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Happy to contribute in the win. Credits to the whole team and especially Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali for making it easier. Extremely grateful to the people of Hyderabad for the amazing hospitality and support throughout.”

At least 1,200 people have now been confirmed dead in Israel in the deadliest attack in the country’s 75-year history.
In Gaza, more than 900 people have been killed as Israel has pounded the densely populated territory with retaliatory air strikes and artillery bombardments.
