NEW DELHI: Pakistani presenter Zainab Abbas on Tuesday left India due to ‘personal reasons’ after backlash on social media over her alleged past anti-India posts.
Zainab was part of the ICC digital team covering the ODI World Cup and was supposed to travel to the cities where Pakistan was scheduled to play its World Cup matches.
The 35-year-old, who arrived in Hyderabad last week, was present in Pakistan’s tournament opener against Netherlands on October 6.
However, on Monday, Zainab left India from Hyderabad to Dubai.
As speculation on social media intensified over her departure from India in the middle of the tournament, the ICC clarified that Zainab was not deported from the host country and has left the country due to personal reasons.
“Zainab has not been deported, she has left for personal reasons,” an ICC spokesperson told PTI.
