LUCKNOW: Hours after Shakurbasti-Mathura MEMU (04446) broke through the platform of Mathura Junction on Tuesday night, an internal report about the accident has found that a drunk helper had kept his bag on the throttle of the engine in the driving cab which caused a sudden acceleration and it crashed into the platform.
An initial joint report prepared by a six-member team has found that this ‘helper’ — Sachin Kumar — had been sent to get the key of the driving trailer coach (DTC) cab.

“Inebriated, continuously watching mobile phone and unmindful of his surroundings, he carelessly kept his bag on the throttle of the engine, taking it into forward position,” the report states.

Five staff involved in train operations and maintenance, including Sachin, have been suspended.
The 28-page report accessed by TOI stated that generally technicians receive the DTC cab key, however, in this case, the technician-1 Harmaan Singh sent Sachin to receive the key.
According to the report, a breathalyzer test conducted on Sachin showed a reading of 47mg/100ml which indicated he had consumed alcohol.
In the freak accident, the train arriving from Delhi derailed and climbed onto a platform at Mathura junction on Tuesday night.
The train stopped after climbing onto platform 2A and colliding with the electric pole.
While one woman passenger suffered electric shock, no casualties were reported, railway authorities confirmed.
