NEW DELHI: Questions might have been raised on Ravichandran Ashwin‘s comeback to the India ODI side but the veteran off spinner silenced his critics with his performance during the second ODI against Australia on Sunday.
Ashwin returned with impressive figures of 3/41 in 7 overs to help India bowl out Australia for 217 after the visitors were set a revised target of 317 in 33 overs due to rain. India posted a mammoth 399/5 in 50 overs.
In the process, the right-arm spinner Ashwin went past the legendary Indian bowler Anil Kumble‘s record of taking most wickets for India against a single team.
Ashwin now has 144 wickets to his name against Australia, surpassing Kumble’s 142 scalps against the same opponent.
Talking about the match, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill hit attacking centuries to help India thrash Australia by 99 runs in a rain-hit match to clinch the series 2-0 with one game to go.
Iyer (105) Gill (104) put on a dominant second-wicket stand of 200 to lay the foundations for India’s 399-5 after being invited to bat in Indore.
KL Rahul’s 52 and an unbeaten 72 by T20 sensation Suryakumar Yadav contributed to the mammoth total and the bowlers then combined to hand India an unbeatable lead in the three-match series.
