Sanju Samson: ‘Quite disheartening’: Robin Uthappa sympathises with Sanju Samson after exclusion from India squad | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The exclusion of India’s talented wicketkeeper-batsman, Sanju Samson, from the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia has raised eyebrows among cricket enthusiasts.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors opted to make several changes in the squad, resting senior players in preparation for the crucial ICC ODI World Cup and giving others an opportunity to prove their mettle before the marquee tournament.Despite that Samson failed to make the cut.
Samson has faced a turbulent journey in and out of the Indian cricket team so far. Despite having a more than decent ODI record, he once again found himself on the outside just ahead of the mega event. Samson, who made his ODI debut in July 2021, has played 13 ODIs, accumulating 390 runs at an impressive average of 55.71 and a strike rate of 104.00. His best performance came in the form of an unbeaten 86 against South Africa in Lucknow in 2022.
Former Indian cricketers Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan have expressed their sympathy for Sanju Samson following this recent development. The decision to omit him from the squad has sparked discussions and debates within the cricketing community, with many fans and experts offering their opinions on Samson’s absence from the lineup.
“No one would wanna be in Sanju’s shoes right now!!,” Uthappa wrote on X, previously known as Twitter.

“The justification could be that even if he was in the squad he wouldn’t get a game. But not even being in the squad would be quite disheartening,” Uthappa further added in another post.

Irfan also wrote that he would have been ‘very disappointed’ if he were in place of Samson.
“If I’m in place of @IamSanjuSamson right now I will be very disappointed,” Irfan posted.

Cricket fans are also coming out in support of Samson and alleging that he is not being treated fairly.
