NEW DELHI: Former allrounder Suresh Raina, a key member of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team, on Friday shared his favourite teams for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup in India.
Raina, who participated in the inaugural edition of Times of India’s ‘Right to Excellence – Sports Summit 2023,’ mentioned that he considers India, Australia, England, and Sri Lanka or Pakistan as strong contenders in the tournament.
The 2023 ICC ODI World Cup is set to kick off on October 5 with an opening match between defending champions England and New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Raina also expressed his hope for India to secure victories in both the ongoing Asia Cup, where India will face Sri Lanka in the final, and the upcoming World Cup. He extended his best wishes to the Indian team, saying, “It would be amazing [to win both the Asia Cup and World Cup]. Last time we hosted the World Cup in India, we won it. And hopefully we do it again. My best wishes to Rohit Sharma and the team. Just go out there and express yourself and go for the trophy.”

India, currently competing in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The last time India hosted the World Cup in 2011, they emerged victorious under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, defeating Sri Lanka in the final at the Wankhede Stadium. The anticipation for the upcoming World Cup is building, with Indian fans eagerly awaiting exciting cricketing action on home soil.
