NEW DELHI: India triumphed over arch-rivals Pakistan by a colossal 228-run margin in a highly anticipated Asia Cup Super Four clash held in Colombo.
Virat Kohli, a cricketing icon, delivered a stellar performance by achieving a milestone of 13,000 runs in one-day internationals and notching his 47th century. His remarkable innings, where he remained unbeaten with 122 runs off 94 balls, set the stage for India’s dominance.
KL Rahul, returning from injury, made a triumphant comeback by scoring a century with an unbeaten 111 runs off 106 balls. Rahul’s return to the team after recovering from a quadriceps injury proved to be a pivotal moment in the match.
The Pakistani side faced a daunting target of 357 runs for victory, a challenge they ultimately fell short of as they could only score a total of 128 runs. Pakistan’s pursuit of the target faltered from the start, and the absence of key bowlers Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf due to injuries further compounded their difficulties.
India’s impressive bowling attack played a significant role in securing their victory. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer, claiming five wickets for just 25 runs.
Following the results, former cricketers of both teams shared their thoughts on the outcome of the high-octane affair on their social media handles. Here are some reactions:
