Serbian basketball player Borisa Simanic underwent surgery to remove one of his kidneys following an injury sustained during the Basketball World Cup. On August 30, during a pool game against South Sudan, Simanic was struck by an elbow from an opposing player, leading to his hospitalization in Manila.
Unfortunately, complications arising from the initial surgery necessitated another procedure on September 3, during which one of Simanic’s kidneys was removed. The Serbian team shared this information on Monday.

Dr. Dragan Radovanovic, the team’s doctor, expressed optimism, stating that they hope for a smooth postoperative recovery.
The incident took place towards the end of Serbia‘s first-round match against South Sudan when the 25-year-old Simanic was defending against Nuni Omot under the Serbian basket. Omot’s elbow strike caused Simanic to cry out in pain, prompting him to leave the court immediately.

Serbia are scheduled to face Lithuania in the World Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.
