NEW DELHI: Ahead of their much-anticipated Asia Cup opener against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2, the Indian cricket team took a moment to unwind and bond in Kandy on Thursday. The players enjoyed a day of quality fun, preparing themselves mentally for the challenging tournament that lies ahead.
Senior pacer Mohammed Shami provided fans with an inside look into their leisurely day by sharing a group photo on the social media platform X. The picture captured Shami alongside five of his teammates: pace sensation Mohammed Siraj, promising young talent Tilak Varma, adept batter Suryakumar Yadav, and versatile all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Shami’s caption on the snapshot read, “A fun and relaxed day with the boys today in Kandy. Really excited to be back with this fun bunch. Let’s go! #TeamIndia #AsiaCup.”
The Indian team arrived in Sri Lanka on Wednesday for the Asia Cup 2023.
However, they will miss the presence of star batter KL Rahul in their campaign opener against Pakistan. Rahul is diligently recovering from a minor niggle, following his return from an injury. He will remain under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) until September 4, as confirmed by coach Rahul Dravid during a press conference.

In the tournament’s group stage, Pakistan, India, and Nepal form Group A, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup 2023 is embracing a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four matches at two different venues, and Sri Lanka shouldering the responsibility of hosting the remaining encounters.
The initial group stage clashes will culminate in the Super Fours stage, commencing on September 6, which promises to intensify the competition. The pinnacle of the tournament will witness the top two teams emerging from the Super Fours, locking horns in the final scheduled for September 17 in Colombo.
