NEW DELHI: With the clock to ODI World Cup ticking down, Team India‘s preparations are in full swing for the marquee competition at home.
In the run-up to the World Cup, India will be seen playing the Asia Cup and ODIs against Australia before the World Cup warm-ups.
As India gear up of the Asia Cup, scheduled to start from August 29, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels Virat Kohli will be game-changer for the team in the crucial days ahead. The cricketer-turned-commentator also said that he is expecting Virat to have a great World Cup.
“Great player who has had a long journey. I expect Virat Kohli to have a great World Cup. His current state, the way he is playing, you would think 50-overs cricket is just the right kind of format for him. On the big stage, he has done it on many occasions. You may get excited about many young, rising players. But on a big night, you need guys who have been there, done that and that’s where Virat becomes so valuable for India,” said Manjrekar on Star Sports show.
Kohli will be back in action in the Asia Cup after a month-long break. After featuring in the ODI series against West Indies, Kohli was rested for the T20Is.
India play their first Asia Cup game against Pakistan on September 2.
